Abortion Services
- “Morning After Pill” – generally effective up to 72 hours after intercourse
- “Manual Vacuum Aspiration” (MVA) – Safe, quick, quiet method of pregnancy termination, especially applicable for very early pregnancy. Local anesthesia with or without IV sedation is available
- First Trimester Abortion (frequently known as “Surgical Abortion”). Local anesthesia with or without IV sedation is available
- Mid-Trimester Abortion – Similar in some ways to the First Trimester Abortion, but somewhat more complex. These procedures are sometimes preformed in an Operating Room
- Medical Abortion with Mifepristone. Mifepristone (also known as RU486 or the French Abortion Pill) was approved by the FDA in the United States in 2000. Using the evidence-based regimen, it is 97-98% effective through 63 days. If it should fail, we generally proceed with a D&C. The Mifepristone is swallowed in the office and then 24-48 hours later a second medicine, Misoprostol, is taken at home. The pregnancy then generally passes within 3 to 4 hours. A followup ultrasound is performed 1 to 2 weeks later.
